Sorry to say, but I’m not actually that big of a fan of Lord of the Rings. For me, it moved a bit too slow and I didn’t love the characters that much. However, I didn’t hate it and know quite a bit about it. The story was interesting as a whole, and had some good lines.
It’s from one of these lines I set a goal for next year. While talking about the perils of the journey laid out before the hobbits with the “One Ring”, Boromir mentioned that “One does not simply walk into Mordor”. But yet, the hobbits had already walked 458 miles to get to Rivendell, and would soon walk another 1321 miles to Mount Doom. In total, they simply walked 1779 miles to accomplish what was needed!
So this 2017 year, my main goal is to “Walk to Mordor”. To do so in the year, I will need to average 4.87 miles a day. I recently measured my stride, and based off that I need to walk somewhere around 2190 steps per mile. To simplify, I am saying I need to walk 5 miles a day, at 11000 steps. This is my goal for next year to, everyday, walk the needed steps at least. Anything beyond that is gravy.
To make things even easier, I am giving myself the last 3 days as a bonus, counting these steps into the first week of walking I will be doing. This allows me to start my goal now, instead of waiting for some arbitrary date. Which will help, because 1779 miles (or 3,913,800 steps) in one year sounds like a very big ask. And it is!
